A Legacy That Helps Future Families Thrive
Your will is an opportunity to provide for the people and causes you care about. After looking after your loved ones, leaving a gift in your will to a charity that reflects your values is an easy and impactful way of helping others thrive.
Your family and your values.
Our loved ones are the most precious things in life. Parents raise their children in a way that imparts the values they feel are important. Kindness, inclusion and community are all values we share as Kiwis. How might those values continue beyond your lifetime? What principles or beliefs have guided your life and your family?
Remembering the Champion Centre in your will is a kind act that gives children with disabilities and developmental delays the opportunity to grow, find their voice and feel included in our community. A gift in your will reflects your values and the kind of community you would like to see in the future. You and your family might also share the Champion Centre’s values of care (atawhai), connectedness (whanaungatanga), empowerment (whakamana) and curiosity (pākiki).
Leaving a gift in your will is in addition to caring for your loved ones, not an alternative to doing so. You do not need to choose one over the other. Perhaps the Champion Centre has helped someone close to you, and choosing to leave a gift is something you can do to help families just like yours.
You may never meet the families you will help, but your gift will be in every moment of discovery and growth that happens along their child’s journey. Your impact will go beyond your lifetime and reflect the life you lived.
Your impact.
The Champion Centre relies on the support of our generous community to keep the doors open and the lights on. We fundraise throughout the year to bridge the gap between government funding and the total cost of delivering our services and programmes.
A gift in your will can leave an incredible legacy for future generations of Champion Centre families.
Children not yet born. Parents who have not yet received a diagnosis for their child. Families who do not yet know they will need our support.
About 200 families are supported by the Champion Centre every year. Most families are with us for six years. Your generosity will help us adapt to the changing needs of children and families in our community while remaining more flexible and innovative in our approach.
A legacy of giving.
“Having been at the Centre and talked to some of the families about the difference made in their child’s life, I want to help keep the work of the Champion Centre going. Helping others is an important value that I have grown up with in my family. I chose to leave a gift in my will so that more young children with a disability can be supported in the years to come.”

An easy way of making a difference.
Including a gift in your will has no impact on your finances today or tomorrow. Many people who decide to leave a charitable gift do so as an extension of their existing support of a charity. Others may not feel able to donate during their lifetime but still want to support a cause that is close to their heart. A gift in their will allows them to do this without affecting their finances while they are alive.
There is no specific gift amount you have to make. Gifts do not need to be large. Your gift should feel comfortable to you. Every gift makes a difference.
Many donors choose to gift a percentage of their estate, known as a residual gift. Residual gifts are beneficial in that they reflect the exact portion of your wealth that you want to give. Even a residual gift of 1% of your estate can make an impact, while leaving most of your estate to your loved ones. Gifts can also be a specific sum of money or a particular asset such as shares or property.
It is easy to add a gift to the Champion Centre in your will. You can do so for free when you write or update your will online through our partnership with Footprint. Alternatively, you can instruct your legal advisor to add a gift when writing your will or to create a codicil (an amendment) if you’re updating your existing will.
You remain in control.
A gift in your will is entirely your choice. If your circumstances, priorities or interests change, your will can be updated at any time. You can increase, decrease or remove a gift whenever you wish.
The Champion Centre has been incredibly blessed through the generosity of donors who have remembered us in their will. Every gift supports our long-term sustainability and helps us be there for future children and their families.
