Our physiotherapists use movement, games, and play to help children develop gross motor skills such as balance, strength, coordination, mobility, and confidence in movement. Therapy is embedded within fun activities that motivate children while helping them achieve meaningful developmental goals.
Our occupational therapists use play to support the development of fine motor skills, self-care abilities, sensory processing, attention, and participation in everyday activities. Through engaging, child-led experiences, children build the skills they need for play, learning, and independence.
Musical play therapy holds a valuable role in supporting intensive movement programmes for children. Music engages multiple areas of the brain simultaneously, including those involved in movement, attention, emotion, motivation, and learning. This whole-brain engagement can help children participate more actively in therapy and maintain focus during intensive sessions.
Musical play also provides a motivating and enjoyable context for repetitive practice. Repetition is essential for developing motor skills and promoting neuroplasticity, but it can be challenging for children to sustain. By incorporating rhythm, songs, and musical activities, repetitive movements become more meaningful, engaging, and fun, increasing a child's willingness to practice and persist with therapeutic tasks.
In intensive programmes, musical play therapy can support movement initiation, coordination, timing, balance, and endurance while fostering confidence and emotional wellbeing. By combining therapeutic movement with motivating musical play experiences, musical play therapy helps children maximise participation, effort, and enjoyment, contributing to improved functional outcomes and a positive therapeutic experience.
Why do an intensive programme?
Children learn new skills through practice. An intensive programme provides multiple opportunities to work on meaningful goals through fun, play-based activities. By combining repeated practice, the right level of challenge, and family coaching, we can help children make meaningful progress and give families practical strategies to continue supporting development at home.
