CENTRE LEADERSHIP
Chloe Hewitt (appointed Executive Director, January 2024)
Chloe joined the Champion Centre as a Speech Language Therapist 2019 and became part of the leadership group at the centre in 2023. She holds a Bachelors of Speech Language Pathology (with Honors) completed at the University of Canterbury in 2017. Her previous work experience includes speech langue therapy support in both the private and public sector across the lower South Island. Chloe has a passion for working alongside tamariki and their whanau and their wider community to develop their interaction and communication skills across settings; she has a particular interest in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).
Alongside her Executive Director role, Chloe continues her work as a speech language therapist working across programmes to support children with their social interaction and communication skills.

Lauren Porter, PhD (appointed Clinical Director, October 2020)
A registered clinical social worker holds both an MSW and PhD in Social Work. Her PhD was completed at the University of Canterbury in 2017 under the supervision of Patricia Champion, with a focus on first time mothers and their premature infants. Lauren has been in direct clinical practice since 1995, working with children and families for most of that time. The focus of Lauren’s work has been centred upon dyadic relationships, infant mental health, parental support, and the psychotherapeutic application of attachment theory and psychological wellbeing.
Lauren has lived and worked in four countries, including Germany, Australia, the USA, and Aotearoa New Zealand. She has been involved with psychotherapeutic private practice, taught at university level, and been employed in both public and private sector agencies including within child protection, government, military, addiction treatment, and schools.
In addition to the operational side of the Clinical Director role, Lauren also provides direct service to children, parents and whanau via her roles as a PACT (Paediatric Autism Communication Therapy) therapist and as parental mental health support.
