FEEDING EXPERIENCES PROGRAMMEThe feeding experiences programme supports families who have a child with feeding difficulties and who are enrolled in either a full multi-disciplinary developmental or a monitoring programme within The Champion Centre. Children with a disability or born prematurely are at increased risk of having long term eating difficulties. This can be as a result of their early developmental and/or medical experiences or as a result of sensory issues.
The feeding team is made up of a feeding therapist who work together with families and their interdisciplinary developmental team. Parents, therapists and children work together to help increase a child’s oral motor skills and the range of foods children are eating, through positive experiences with food, working with the child’s strengths and needs. Occupational therapy, psychology and dietetics are all part of the extended team to help with seating, sensory, family support and nutritional analysis. If you have concerns about your child’s eating or feeding, it is good to discuss these in the first instance with your Speech Language Therapist. |
